Mother of royalty

Rainy day hike at Foothill

Had a lovely walk in the rain at Foothill Park. Kelton found one slender salamander. The little guys loved puddle splashing. David and I enjoyed the vibrant greens and luminous light. Unfortunately halfway back the kids were done with being wet!

Half Birthday Fun

Since Weston and Brennan have a summer Birthday, they celebrated their half Birthday at preschool. They both loved their moment in the sun followed by blowing out the candle on the playdoh cake with teacher Judy. Weston wore his birthday crown all day. This weekend we celebrate big brother's 6th Birthday.

Family play

After dinner I try to get all the kids playing together. Last night we did marble run. Kelton did most of the construction, but everyone loved running his marbles though.

Skunky

Kelton found his skunk beetle's Sierra Nevada relatives. Lately he's been interested in identifying things using our guide books. It's a nice follow up to learning about the plants and critters we find on our weekend hikes.

Tomato soup

Brennan loves it, Weston won't touch it.

Back home

After our lovely hike we had an evening at home. Brennan cuddled with a tired Daddy. Weston built a tower and gleefully knocked it down.

Redwoods hike

Today's hike was at Sam McDonald Park. We visited the Heritage Redwood grove. We found many banana slugs, lots of different colored mushrooms, a salamander and even a newt interacting with a banana slug. Plus lots of very big, very beautiful trees. The boys loved it when Daddy roared like a mountain lion and they roared back. We had so much fun, nobody wanted to head home.

Mommy's turn for bedtime story

Haircut

Brennan sat by himself for the first time. Very handsome now.

Cactus garden

"Pokey, ouch!". Thats how Brennan described the cactus he saw today at the Stanford Cactus Garden. It was fun to pretend to be in the desert on this cold, dreary, damp, New Years Day.

Fascinating fungus

Kelton photographing a large fungus we found near the Stanford cactus garden.

Demise of a gingerbread house

The first night we ate all the candies off, the next night the walls came down.
