Here is the happy crew warming up in the hot tub after snorkeling in the ocean pools in the background. There is an amazing world of coral and tropical fish out there!
Brennan has found at least four coconuts on this trip. Today he convinced Daddy & Kelton to husk it and crack it. They didn't find any juice, but the meat was yummy.
The pahoehoe lava has fascinating ropy patterns. They offer a handhold when climbing the lava hills. Weston chugged his guava juice after a hot afternoon out on the lava field.
We climbed around the 2008 lava flow, which covered a 2 mile section of road that David and I drove on last time we visited this area. Weston and Brennan are at the old 'Road Closed' sign. Kelton is showing where the lava only partially covered the road.
We hiked through a tropical rainforest filled with birdsong to arrive at the Thurston Lava Tube. Unlike the lava tube we saw in the Mojave Desert, this lava tube was damp and drippy inside. We all were given many. 'Cave kisses'.
We enjoyed our first family luau. Brennan wore his half coconut like a hat. Weston had his arm stamped, we tried traditional Hawaiian games and, most exciting, watched the fire dance.
Lazy sunset from our balcony, dad and boy night out in the tiki garden, flower collecting with Nina, a found coconut treasure, and the boys after boogie boarding in the deep blue.
